Let's start at the very beginning...
Here is the first installment of my free Health Newsletter. Enjoy!
Welcome To My Radio Listeners And Patients Around The World...
In order for anything to hold my attention it has to be fresh, exciting, thought provoking, heavy, life changing, and especially new...
Is has to be new. It has to be stuff I haven’t heard before. Concepts that intrigue me yet not so far above my head that I cannot understand it, at least after reading or hearing it
four or five times. Yeah, I am like that. Slow to learn, but once I have it, it’s mine. Anyway, this is going to be a lot of what I just wrote above...mostly stuff you know is true when you hear it even if it is the first time. I want to teach you about your body, but I
want to do it in a way that is entertaining and enlightening. For instance...did you know it is not so much how your genes, 23 of which came from each parent, come together to make you look and perform the way you do...it is how those same genes express themselves that is more important. Otherwise all your same sex siblings would look exactly the same, twins or not! How the gene expresses itself is something we will be talking about very soon. So read on, enjoy this newsletter. I will be writing it every week or so to best answer some of the multitude of questions I get asked all the time. Also there will be questions and answers at the end, plus a “case of the week” to let you peek inside the life of someone who’s life was turned around and given back.
Does Your Health Come From Your Genes or Your Thoughts?
It is hard anymore to escape hearing the words "genetic determination." Here is another set of words for you, "The Human Genome Project.” For decades, we have been the victim, or at least believed we were the victims of our own genetic design. "It's not my fault I'm fat, lazy, selfish, sickly, angry, vindictive, ordinary, etc... It’s my parent’s fault! They made me. It's in my genes!"
I would venture 9 out of 10 people believe this. An overwhelming majority of people believe that our lives are predetermined and already laid out by our time of birth, again because of our genes. In other words, we are not only made of the stuff of stars, but we are controlled by forces we didn't create within ourselves as much as we are controlled outside ourselves by the same kind of governing forces imparted to us by the movement of stars, planets, moons, etc. So within or without, we are destiny's playthings, pawns of influences we can only try to escape from, or bow down to.
There is a new and emerging science that has discovered a radically different approach to understanding how our bodies work and perform, and is now at one of the leading edges of research. It is called the science of Epigenetics. Epi meaning surface or outside. Researchers and cellular biologists are recognizing that while genes in the nucleus of the cell work to divide the cell for reproduction of the cell, the greater influence on how a heart cell, or liver cell, or even a brain cell functions, occurs by what is happening to its environment around the cell, rather than by the genetic engine inside.
In other words, the sum behavior and function of the cells of your body are more influenced by the external than the internal. Even your perception of what is going on around you directly affects the function of the cell.
Nature is so powerful and so simple, yet so limited because of our belief systems. You are not controlled by your genes but by your beliefs. Yes, there are genetic defects. About 5% of the population. What about the other 95%? You see, you can penetrate a cell and remove the nucleus where the genes are found and the cell will continue to live another 2-3 months, without the "brain." What is the real brain of the cell?
It is hard to look at things outside your belief system. If it does not fit your paradigm you will usually let it go, truth or not. The hardest thing in life is letting go of something you thought was real.
Dr. Bruce Lipton, one of the pioneers of this work, explains this new reality by exposing three false assumptions that have hung over the science labs far too long. False Assumption 1) Biological Processes Employ Newtonian Physics. In other words, the universe is a machine. Parts. If you understand the parts, you understand the machine. Newtonian physics is out of date by 85 years because we entered the quantum era in 1925.
And the problem with modern health care today is that we are still stuck in the Newtonian model of the human body. We are parts. Make the part work better and we are fine.
False Assumption 2) Genes Control the Biological Expression.
This does not work anymore because we know genes do not turn themselves on and off. If genes cannot control themselves they cannot control other things as well. False Assumption 3) Darwinian Evolution Provides for Biological Diversity. Yes, genes can change their expression and can lead to changes in physical appearance and function, but it is an environmentally caused effect. In other words, your genes adapt to your beliefs. Can your mind heal you?
The scientific revolution gave us Newton and Decartes, who said yes, there may be a God out there, but everything works like a clock and if we can figure that mechanism we can fix everything, because look...we can predict the movement of the planets, so we can predict the movement of your organs. We can find out which organ is running on empty and give it a drug and control your health!
We stopped looking at the body spiritually and started looking at it mechanically. It is a machine. We can control it. Are you defective?
We can give you drugs and control your health. And therefore we can control nature.
We lost the concept of the spiritual side of the body. The ghost in the machine. But thanks to Dr. Lipton it is becoming clear that the ghost is the machine, and any move away from that concept takes us closer to being sick and dying too soon.
There are 50-70 trillion cells in the body. Do you know these cells grow better in a petri dish than in your body? Because the environment is different. Why do the Palm Springs Follies' girls look so young? You have to be 55 years old to join this dance team. 55!!! And legs that look like the 20-30 year old Rockettes. What makes the difference? Some of the Follies ladies are over 70 years old. Google their picture. You won't believe it.
So what is the organ that controls these cells? The nervous system of course! What controls the nervous system? The environment. Your nervous system is the link between the outside world of the universe up to your skin and the inside world of your cells. Remember, take the genes out of a living cell and the cell goes right on living.
Where does life come from? The movement of proteins. Proteins are the only molecules that move. They change shape. As their shape changes their function changes. There are 100,000 proteins that shape your body. So where does life come from? The proteins move on signal from an outside source. The signal...the nerve input...causes the protein to change shape...movement occurs...life happens.
Genes do not cause anything. Genes make the proteins but they don't make them move. What is the signal? Here it is...it is so simple it will make you smile over the beautiful simplicity, yet powerful dynamic of life itself. An environmental signal (outside the cell) activates the regulatory gene, that activates the DNA, that activates the RNA, that activates the protein. You are not, I repeat not, determined by your genes. You are environmentally determined! An outside signal causes the gene to express itself. Not the DNA effect.
You have different environments. Your blood, your nutrition, your body temp etc. You also have the cell membrane. The skin of the cell. Your reproductive part is in the gonads, deep in the body, while your receptors are on the outside of your body on your skin. What happens to affect your skin gently affects your response. Too cold, too hot, etc.
The receptors of the cell are on its skin. The real brain of the cell is its skin. This is where all protein interaction occurs. Cut off the receptors of the cell and the cell dies. Take out the DNA of the cell and it goes on living.
If you alter the receptors on the cell the cell's function will change. If you alter the correct signal to the cells receptors on it's skin the cells function will change. Can you think your way into cancer?
Perception will change the function of the cell. The cell is not controlled by the genes. The cell is controlled simply by your perception of things. How you think and what you you think will create neuropeptides that signal the cell wall receptors. You can turn genes on and off by thinking!
Cells work together as a community. When that community begins to fall apart because the signals have changed, cancer forms. Cancer cells live outside the community. Take cancer cells out of the body and they improve!
Here, in summary, is this concept. Your beliefs are what buffers the outside environment of the cell with the inside cytoplasmic environment of the cell's function. In other words, it is your belief system that regulates the cell.
Aging is a belief. You get old because you believe you are getting old. When you tell yourself that you cannot do something anymore your body will change itself to prove you right. If you believe you are getting older you will. When we stop doing things our body will begin restoring itself. Stop using your bones and you get osteoporosis. Stop using your brain you will get Alzheimer's. Put your broken leg in a cast for 6 months and you will lose half the muscle.
We are machines. We are made of proteins. These proteins respond more powerfully to outside influences than inside influences. What if your beliefs are wrong?
Why can a man, a bank president, who is told he has terminal cancer and only 30 days to live, can sell everything overnight, move to Bora Bora that week, use his money to open a health clinic and school for orphans, throws himself into a whole new life, and in two years is completely clean of any cancer?
How do you get out of terminal cancer? Change the signal. Change the whole membrane of your life.
